Winter Edition

It's Winter time!. For the past few days, it has been snowing heavily. Schools have been closed, roads blocked, trains delayed, bums have been sore from repeated slippery falls......yadi dadi da... etc. Nevertheless, the good thing about this freezing cold season is that I can wear certain items without looking like I've gone bonkers!

I almost forgot: Due to the heavy snow, the rabbits usually seen hopping around the green compound have all gone hibernating. (Above picture: You would be forgiven for thinking that I have nicked a rabbit from the wild life and forced it to be photographed)

This is actually a faux fur scarf!

The great thing about the faux fur scarf is that you can use it as trimmings to the collar of an old coat. (No rabbits died here!)

Outfit:-
Faux fur scarf from Suzanne Bettley London as collar trimmings to an old coat from Matalan
Skinny jeans from River Island
Really really old black leather boots (almost 9 yrs old now, so they are practically vintage by now!) but they're still in perfect condition.

Faux fur are pretty versatile. They are great as coats and as an additional glamorous touch to any simple party dress.

Outfit:-
White faux fur coat
Little black dress with pearl trimmings from Pussycat London
Black patent heels from Marks & Spencers.

So, invest in Faux fur!

Next up is Luxurious Velvet!
A bit of info about Velvet from taken from Wikipedia, quote:

"Velvet is a type of woven tufted fabric in which the cut threads are very evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it a distinct feel. The art of velvet-weaving probably originated in ancient Kashmir around the beginning of the fourteenth century. Velvet was very expensive and was among the luxury goods. Velvet is difficult to clean, but in modern times, dry cleaning is used".
Above: Velvet shoes by Prada. It's feels like stroking a cat...

Outfit:-

Velvet Blue Jacket by Tommy Hilfiger
Silk Blouse by Ralph Lauren
Navy skirt by Tommy Hilfiger
Velvet Prada Shoes.

Add a pair of glasses to create the "smart" look. Yeah right.. (p/s: Tips- Did you know that if you get your contact lens prescription from Specsavers, you can get designer frames for half price?!)

Is it hard to describe the texture of velvet but it sure feels comfy.

Okay, I'm done talking for now... BTW MERRY CHRISTMAS! okay, I'm really done talking now! Promise...

DIY Georges Chakra Couture

Remember the mystery project (posted in the second last blog)? I have finally completed the sewing ordeal. So, who's the celebrity?, which couture dress is it?, and how does the mystery shoes look like? The couture dress is a White Floral Mini Dress from Georges Chakra Spring/Summer 2007 collection. It costs a staggerring (coughing blood here) $20,000!!!

.....and Cheryl Cole wore it to the Brits Awards. She is absolutely stunning, drop-dead gorgeous!

So, materials required were: A plain white dress & some sewing materials. This dress (above) was the closest that I could find. I bought it from NewLook for £30. It's a lace shift dress.

I then ordered some satin flower to create the same 3D effect as those seen on the Georges Chakra Floral Mini dress. A total of 150 satin flowers were used. These were sold at approximately £2 per 50 pieces (ie approx £6 in total)

..... and some beads & silver sequins to sew the satin flowers onto the dress. These were bought from John Lewis store for £2.50 per tube.

.........and, of course the shoes............

Red satin high heels by Dolce & Gabbana

So, after watching 25 episodes of the "Beyond Realm of Conscience" (a TVB Hong Kong Drama series- to educate those of you who are non-TV addicts, haha), 10 over accidental needle pin pricks and post sewing blurry vision........ the dress is finally finished.

Finished! (teary eyes, sniff sniff)

Some additional features- silver sequins around the edges of the hand sleeves.

With the red satin heels

Stealing some beauty tips from Cheryl Cole- Red hot lips, well defined eyes, and of course the big hair do.

It would be a shame to leave the Vernis Red LV Roxbury Drive out of the picture (plus, I needed an object to cover my bum!)

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

Alessandro Dell' Acqua Shoes

Alessandro Dell' Acqua, a fashion designer (born on the 21 December 1962, Naples) presented his first ready-to-wear collection at Milan Moda Donna in March 1996. In 2000, he launched a line of hot-chic women's shoes.

His shoes designs shows the characteristic "comma shape" pattern on the insole of the shoes

The attention-to-detail features displayed on this pair of shoes is amazing (getting some palpitations here). The end of the shoes laces with a dangling metal bit (don't know how else to describe it) engraved "DELL' ACQUA".

The shoes laces resembles the sexy laces on the back of a corset.

Electric Blue Heels

All smiles :)

Mystery Project

As a consequence of severe case of boredom, I have decided to take up a project which involves making a replica (almost, but not quite) of a couture dress which I have been lusting for a while. I'm not going to disclose the details just yet.....

All that I can say just now is that this haute couture dress had been seen worn by a celebrity. Wonder which one?

The couture dress looks really cute but elegant. I have bought most of the materials required. Wonder how does the dress look like?

And finally, I have the perfect shoes by Dolce & Gabbana that would go well with this end result "DIY Dress". Wonder what does this pair of mysterious shoes looks like?

It all sounds pretty mysterious but hopefully it would be worth the wait. So, stay tuned & watch this space!
